Awesome New Media Mercenary
[Movie Trailer Voice] “This Summer, Josh Nadler is… New Media Mercenary… in 3D where available”
Seriously though, my name is Josh and I am your New Media Mercenary. I don’t do so great just rambling about myself (in a clear, understandable way), so I’ll play you and ask myself all the tough questions.
“What is a ‘New Media Mercenary?’”
Wikipedia defines “New Media” as a broad term that emerged in the later part of the 20th century to encompass the amalgamation of traditional media such as film, images, music, spoken and written word, with the interactive power of computer and communications technology, computer-enabled consumer devices and most importantly the internet.
As for “Mercenary,” it just sounds so much more bad-ass than Freelancer, Designer, or Hooligan. Okay, maybe not hooligan, but New Media Hooligan doesn’t sound as catchy.
“What qualifications do you have?”
Well, I know a few other 20-something Entrepreneurs, but I’ve been working freelance since mid-2004 - so I’ve been doing this almost 7 years now!
I’ve helped over 50+ businesses/individuals/organizations in my tenure. Over 90% of my work has been from referrals.
My former/current clients are my best salesman — and I don’t even have to pay them!
Look, I’ve worked at design agencies (3 of them), an insurance office, and a real estate office. And honestly, I can’t cut it in the 9 to 5 world. Sometimes I work 18 hours straight, sometimes it’s only 6 hours in 1 hour increments. Sometimes I’m up until 5 or 6 in the morning and other times I’m in bed by 11. What can I say, I am a creative and you can’t turn creativity on and off like a faucet. So, I’ve learned to adjust my work to my lifestyle and as of late, I have been getting some amazing results.
“How Much Do You Charge?”
Right now, my going rate is $89 an hour.
Sometimes I charge by the project, sometimes I offer discounts for projects of 40 hours or more, and sometimes I charge rush fees for those last minute, break-neck, needed-yesterday type projects.
It really all depends on the project, the organization, the timeline, the use of the project and the exposure.
